Jose A. Lopez, MD Board Certified & Fellowship Trained General Surgeon
A native Texan, Jose Lopez was born and raised in McAllen, TX. He earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and a medical doctorate from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Lopez completed his general surgery residency at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington and undertook a fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington, where he focused on complex abdominal surgery, enhanced complex laparoscopic techniques, and focused on minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Lopez is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, Travis County Medical Society, and American Hernia Society. Dr. Lopez’s interests and experience are in minimally invasive procedures of the abdominal cavity which include hernia repairs, anti-reflux surgery, hiatal hernia repairs, gallbladder surgery, colorectal surgery, and gastric surgery. Dr. Lopez prefers an approach to patient care that is personalized and based on each patient’s specific pathology and symptoms, thus allowing each patient the best opportunity to recover as quickly and safely as possible, while minimizing complications.
Erin, Dr. Lopez’s wife, is an ICU nurse. They welcomed their first child in the summer of 2018, and their second child in the fall of 2019. In his free time, Dr. Lopez enjoys hunting, fishing, sports, music events, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to our Central Austin location, Dr. Lopez sees patients in Cedar Park.
